hi there!

Meet clinical health psychologist & psychotherapist,

Amanda Burger

I’m Amanda Burger, a clinical health psychologist and psychotherapist with 15 years of experience helping adults manage insomnia, trauma, and the challenges of chronic health conditions. I earned my doctorate at Wayne State University and have spent much of my career teaching and working in academic health centers.

Clients often tell me that therapy has helped them regulate emotions in a healthy way, stop watching the clock at night, feel calmer during the day, and finally get back to activities they thought they’d lost for good. They feel less overwhelmed, more capable, and more in control. My goal is to help you work toward those changes—so you can feel rested, present, and ready to take on life again.

Psychotherapy services to help you show up for life more fully

I use a mix of therapy approaches to best suit your needs, which can look like a strengths-based trauma-informed approach that also incorporates cognitive and emotional changes to help you feel seen and understood.

Psychotherapy services

Through psychotherapy, I help individuals and couples work through whatever is impacting them—whether it’s trauma, stress, chronic illness, or emotional struggles—so they can re-engage with the things they value most.

CBT therapy for insomnia

CBT for insomnia is the gold-standard treatment to help you combat restless nights and racing thoughts. I use CBT to help you reset your sleep patterns and rebuild habits to help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and function better throughout the day.

Treatment areas

Therapy for insomnia, trauma, chronic pain & more

With my background in health psychology, I understand how emotional and physical health are connected. Whether it’s insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, or trauma, we’ll address the full picture together.

Insomnia

Sleepless nights? Racing thoughts? CBT for insomnia helps reset your sleep patterns and rebuild healthier habits so you can finally obtain better sleep and focus on important goals again

Trauma

Trauma doesn’t stay in the past—it affects how you feel today. Using narrative-based therapy, written exposure therapy, and prolonged exposure, we’ll process what you’ve been through so you can move forward and engage meaningfully with your relationships and life.

Anxiety

Anxiety doesn’t have to run your life. We’ll figure out what’s behind the racing thoughts and constant worry, and I’ll help you develop tools to feel more grounded.

Depression

Depression can make it hard to do even the smallest things. I’ll help you figure out what’s keeping you stuck and work on realistic steps to help you re-engage with your life.

Chronic Pain & Health Conditions

When you’re living with chronic pain or health challenges, it can be hard to think about anything else. Therapy can help with emotional regulation and staying engaged in your favorite activities.

Relationship Challenges

Whether you need couples counseling or help with family dynamics, together, we’ll get to the root of the problem, improve communication, and rebuild connection.

Psychological Evaluations

In addition to psychotherapy, I provide psychological evaluations to help clarify concerns, understand individual needs, and guide next steps. Evaluations are available for a range of concerns and are tailored to each person’s situation.

What to expect from therapy

I’m a direct, solution-focused therapist who works with you to figure out what’s holding you back and which tools will help. Here’s how we’ll work together.

01.
Getting to the root of it
In the first sessions, I take time to really understand what’s going on. Whether it’s sleepless nights or emotional overwhelm, we’ll explore what’s happening and how it’s affecting your life.
02.
Building tools to cope
Once we’ve identified what’s affecting you, we’ll map out practical steps forward. From adjusting sleep habits to managing emotional triggers, we’ll build tools that you can easily apply day-to-day.
03.
Making it stick
From here, we focus on making sure the tools you’ve learned become part of your routine. The goal is lasting relief—so you can stay present and connected in your life.
